Ricky Childers DPM

Dr. Ricky Childers founded North Central Texas Foot & Ankle in 2014 and his mission is to provide compassion and respect to every patient with definitive treatment options that allow patients to move forward with their health and lives.

Dr. Childers was born and raised in West Virginia. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy which helped further establish his commitment to honor, discipline, and integrity. His initial interest in the foot and ankle occurred after fracturing his ankle while attending Airborne School and participating in a special forces unit. A civilian podiatrist treated his fracture and enlightened him on the possibilities of a career in podiatry. Dr. Childers went on to serve in the Gulf War and continues to serve our country as an officer in the Navy Reserves.

While in the Navy Reserves, Dr. Childers completed his undergraduate degree at the University Nevada Reno with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences. He went on to attend the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California and was awarded “Outstanding Student in Podiatric Surgery” from his class. Dr. Childers stayed in San Francisco to complete a three-year surgical residency program at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Dr. Childers elected to continue his training by completing a Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine Fellowship in Redwood City, California, which supports many of the professional and college level athletes in the Bay Area. In addition, Dr. Childers completed two mini fellowships. He was selected for the AO International Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Lugano, Switzerland and the Ilizarov Technique Fellowship for External Fixation in Kurgan, Russia.

After completing his training, Dr. Childers accepted a position at a large multi-specialty group in Sacramento, California, where he practiced from 2006 – 2013. He served as Chief of Podiatric Surgery at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento from 2011-2013.

Dr. Childers moved to Texas with his wife, a native Texan, and three daughters to be near family in 2013. He founded North Central Texas Foot & Ankle in Decatur, Texas and continues to serve Wise County. Dr. Childers recently joined Alliance Foot and Ankle Specialists and is excited about the opportunity to also serve the Tarrant County community.

His mission is to provide compassion and respect to every patient with definitive treatment options that allow patients to move forward with their health and lives.

Outside of podiatry, Dr. Childers enjoys being with his family, golfing, back country skiing, cycling, hunting, and fishing.
